Fiona Nicholson has a gift for seeing beauty in the things most of us walk straight past. A lover of rustic garden art, she turns discarded farm “treasure” — old fencing wire, forgotten off-cuts, the rusted relics of rural life — into striking handcrafted pieces that tell a story of the land they came from. This one-of-a-kind hat is woven entirely from rustic barbed wire, transformed by Fiona’s hands into a piece as much sculpture as it is statement. It’s a fitting symbol for Mooloo Farming country — where fences, paddocks, and hard work shape everyday life — reimagined as something unexpected and beautiful. Fiona generously donated this piece to Sunflower Day on Mooloo Farm, in support of Little Haven Palliative Care and Supporting Chemotherapy Cooloola Inc. In her own words: “I have always loved rustic garden art and I enjoy recycling farm ‘treasure’ into a creative piece.
